Brad Kik Awarded 2022 Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture Artist Residency

BELLAIRE, MI — Brad Kik, co-director and co-founder of Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology, has been awarded a three week artist residency at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture in Sisters, Oregon. Chosen from over 80 applicants, Brad is one of 26 artists selected for this award.

Pine Meadow Ranch (PMR) was purchased by The Roundhouse Foundation in 2017 to bring to fruition a “long-term vision of creating a space for artists, conservationists, farmers, ranchers, educators and scientists to come together to share space and ideas while working in an inspirational setting. The Ranch serves as a model for interconnected work and the basis for collaborative economies.”

This focus on the intersection between art and land is what specifically drew Brad to the PMR residency program.

"Pine Meadow Ranch is one of just a few residencies that have fully embraced the idea of art intersecting with land use; specifically ranching and other modes of local food production. Because of that, I also get to participate in conversations here that I couldn't have anywhere else," said Brad.

The 2022 residency theme is “Coexistence and Regeneration.” Brad is currently midway through his residency, spending three weeks writing and reflecting on the intersection of ecology and the arts.

On why Brad is taking the time to attend a residency, he says "Residencies are essential for my workflow. Like miniature sabbaticals, they offer time to remove myself from the day-to-day hustle of running a small non-profit so I can reflect, write, and rest, all at once."

Brad is hoping that work produced and refined while in residency will contribute to the conversation surrounding the role of local action and community-building in addressing our current climate predicament.
