Join Kim of Fran & Judy for three cozy hours of stitching. In this workshop, you’ll get to choose one Cozy Cottage ornament to make. The workshop will start with an overview of embroidery and practicing a few stitches on scrap felt. Once you’re ready, Kim will guide you step by step through the process of making a felt embroidered ornament, with plenty of individual instruction and hands-on support along the way.
Whether you’re completely new to embroidery or looking to build confidence with your stitching, this workshop is designed to be relaxed, encouraging, and enjoyable. And don’t worry if you don’t finish. Your kit includes step-by-step instructions so you can take it home and finish at your own pace.
The workshop will be held at Grass River Natural Area in Bellaire, Michigan, so feel free to arrive early, take a walk through the trails, and enjoy the beautiful fall colors before we begin.
Instructor Bio:
Kim’s artistic journey began at a young age, growing up in rural northern Michigan alongside two matriarchs, her grandmother Fran and her mother Judy, who taught her how to embroider. Summer vacations were spent at her grandma’s historic fieldstone home, where Kim found herself captivated by family stories and watching her mom and grandma immersed in the act of creating. Today, Kim’s artistic practice is a tribute to the legacy of her matriarchs.
Kim received a Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation from Eastern Michigan University in 2013 and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art History and Visual Culture from Michigan State University in 2010. After spending over a decade working in exhibit design and education for museums and art centers, she shifted to dedicating her time fully to her art practice. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions throughout Michigan, including at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey, Sault Area Art Center, and Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, among others.
Kim enjoys exploring the natural wonders of Michigan with her husband, Kyle, and their two pups, Ruby and Leo. They love cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and spending time on the many lakes and streams of the Mitten State.
