Twilight Tour—Family Farming for Sustainability

  • La Casa Verde 8202 South Schomberg Road Cedar, MI, 49621 United States (map)

At La Casa Verde Farm folks will see a small-scale and sustainable family farm with diverse crop production and organic growing practices. You will have the opportunity to learn about crop rotation, cover cropping, the tools used, and systems of efficiency they have developed over the years. For example, they will explain how they integrate pasture raised pigs in a multi-year rotation through growing areas later used for vegetable and flower production. La Casa Verde has just expanded the farm's growing efforts to a second 40-acre property nearby and both properties will be visited on this tour.

Farm bio (web only):

La Casa Verde Produce is a cooperative business partnership between parents Dave and Margaret Weeks and son Noel Weeks - it’s a multi-generational effort to return to a farming way of life that skipped a generation. La Casa Verde originated out of husband and wife Dave and Margaret's desire to move back to Michigan to have a sustainable homestead and a joyful working retirement. After graduating from college with a degree in Religion and Environmental studies, Noel moved to join them - making his own commitment to forge a living with the land.
