Twilight Tour—Farming for the Future

Students enrolled in the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District’s (TBAISD) Agriscience and Natural Resources program will set up a special showcase of their hands-on experiential learning in animal science, plant science, and natural resources. Please join us for a tour of the TBAISD Greenhouse to connect with these future leaders who will present on the learning from the first month back at school. Topics they plan highlight will include poinsettia growth and production, poultry production, operation of the Farmbot (automated vegetable management system), aquaculture production, and Future Farmers of America (FFA) Chapter operations.


Farm Bio:
The Traverse Bay Area Career-Tech Center offers high school junior and seniors twenty-three different program options utilizing the latest technology and state-of-the-art equipment. Training is provided for immediate job placement, preparation for college, or military service. Around 50 students in the Agriscience program are engaged in FFA and many will go on to pursue careers in the agricultural industry, natural resources related careers or the GREEN industry. Instructor Brian Matchett obtained his Bachelor’s of Science and Master’s of Science degrees in Agriscience Education and Agriculture and Extension Education from Michigan State University. He has also taught science and agriculture at Alcona Community Schools, Northwestern Michigan College, and for Michigan State University professional certificate programs.
