Join John and Bailey for a tour through their greenhouses to learn about the sustainable systems that support their year-round vegetable production - they even yield tomatoes and cucumbers in May. Lakeview Hill Farm is committed to certified organic vegetable production and renewable energy systems including a solar array and high-efficiency gasification wood boiler. We we will also discuss their process of acquiring land to start this farm as first-generation farmers in the context of broader efforts for farmland stewardship in this region.
John and Bailey are young farmers that met traveling in South America and quickly discovered their shared passion for good food and community. Their love for northern Michigan and passion for farming has drawn them back to Traverse City where they've been working on building their homestead and farm together for the past 2 years. John has a Master's degree in Environmental Studies (University of Montana) & Bachelor's in Sustainable and Organic Horticulture (Michigan State University). He has been farming for 5 years. Bailey has a Bachelor's degree in Business and background in marketing and event management. She loves bringing people together around local food and works at Taste the Local Difference when not on the farm.
